We are now less than two weeks away from the big race. Lord, help me.
My training has been going pretty well. I recently took a little break after a couple rough short runs. I thought, “my body must just be worn out” so I took a little break. Probably a longer one than I really should have, but I took one nonetheless.
During said break I got my first massage ever. My goodness did it help some of the soreness I had! I was always unsure about getting one because I was afraid it would hurt, but the masseuse took that into consideration and worked on my tired muscles with firmness, but never fierceness. Bless her. I felt so much better after I had the massage that I bought a package to get more in the future. I always thought of them as a luxury, but now I’m starting to lean toward them being beneficial for overall health. If you haven’t tried one, you really should.
After my rest and massage it was time to get back in the running saddle. It didn’t go very well when I set out to get back into my running groove. I had a couple of rough short runs and was feeling discouraged and frustrated. How was I supposed to run a 5k when I couldn’t even handle my short runs? Well I pushed myself to go ahead with my long run on Saturday and it felt great! Go figure. Now I’m feeling much better about this race business.
My long run this weekend will take me over the 5k distance and if that goes well I’ll feel really confident going into the Everest Challenge. I’ll probably be at the back of the pack, but I’ll be with friends and having a good time while doing something good for myself. I’m really excited for the trip and the race!
Bring it, Yeti.
