Weekly Weigh-In: Shore Thing

What a crazy busy week!  I was really glad to get to the shore on Friday to start the long weekend and try to get a little relaxation into the schedule.  It started off with some of my friends from college visiting the shore house.  It’s always good to see these girls and I was really looking forward to our weekend together.  We generally figure out a weekend at someones house a couple times a year to catch up, laugh, and remember the old days in Saratoga.  Man, those days are getting further behind and make me feel old.

As always it was fun to see them!  Unfortunately, the weather didn’t really cooperate with our weekend at the beach house, but we made the best of it and hung out stared at the rain while we chatted.  At least three of us got to go for a walk on the beach before the skies opened up.  The fourth had to work since she’s a vet and had a sick cat to contend with before she could make the trip to Cape May.  When she arrived we decided to go for a late lunch in the crappy weather.

Everyone wanted fish so the Lobster House was the choice since its usually a zoo and would be better at two in the afternoon.  We still waited about 40 minutes to be seated but it was worth the wait.  We were in no hurry so we just hung out and had our fish and lingered while we watched people run for it when it started to rain again.  We were totally stuffed and happy when we made our way out.  Our choice to have lunch rather than dinner was solidified on our way out.  You know a place is popular when there is a line out the door 45 minutes before they even take names for dinner service.

There was definitely no beach after lunch since it pretty much poured the rest of the night.  We just lounged around on our back porch (if you haven’t been to the Helmstetter shore house our porch is pretty awesome).  I watched longingly as they drank beer while we talked about an upcoming wedding, working out, and grad school. God I miss beer.

We only really left the porch that night to get ice cream for dinner.  Since we ate lunch so late and we ate a lot no one was hungry for a real meal.  Ice cream it was!  There is an awesome homemade ice cream place around the corner from the house so we put on our rain jackets and headed out.  We weren’t even the only idiots going there in the rain!  A lovely woman even took our picture to remember this silly moment.  Ice cream was a total splurge on the points log, but that place is completely worth it.

After my big lunch and ice cream dinner I had to get back to eating healthy business on Sunday.  While Sunday was better food-wise it was also the day my friends had to go home.  One left super early since it had taken her nine hours to get there from the Boston suburbs on Friday and the other two left in the afternoon.  Of course, the sun came out when they went home so I finally got to the beach after they were on the highway.

My busy schedule didn’t end when I got home on Monday either, in fact it got busier.  Work was hectic this week with lots of time spent in my car.  Luckily it was gorgeous out on a couple of the days and I got to drive around with the top down while I looked at properties.  There are times when my job is pretty sweet, and that was one of them.

After work was full of activities too with the usual run around and trying to get healthy food into the house and prepped.  Otherwise, I had a weird massage one night, met up with my friend for a yoga class another, and had our fantasy football draft between packing for the shore and watching the RNC on Thursday.

I mentioned my massage which was supposed to help me relax.  My last couple of weekends down the shore haven’t been very relaxing since we’ve had company so I was in some serious need of an hour of tuning out.  However, my usual massage therapist was sick and so I went with someone else.  I realize they all have different methods, but I just couldn’t settle in with this girl.  It was all down hill after she massaged my ears.  Yup, ears.  Her fingers were in my ears and it was the weirdest feeling.  Not to mention I wear four earrings in each ear so her kneading my earlobes around wasn’t a great feeling.

Throughout most of the week I spent the evenings watching tv way more than usual since I’m a politics nerd.  Why in God’s name to they have to speak so late when I’m so tired from a crazy week?  I’ll be doing it again next week too for the DNC.  Since I think there is a time and place for everything, and my blog isn’t the place to discuss my political views so I won’t be saying much more than it’s tiring me out to keep up with the conventions.  Sheesh.

So with all that went on this week how did I do on the scale?  I gained .2 lbs.  Ugh.  However, I’ve realized that I’ve either had a small gain or stayed the same the first week of the month during my time at Weight Watchers.  Thanks, uterus.  Some friends helped me get over my little pity party when they told me they usually gain a lot more than .2 when they are PMSing.  So I will take my .2 and hush.

I am a little meh on my progress in August though.  I’ve only lost a about 3 pounds over the month.  Granted I had vacation and lots of company at the shore, but I was hoping to keep up with my previous pace.  Hopefully September will bring a more regular schedule and a routine of working out and eating properly.
