Weekly Weigh-In: One More Weekend at the Shore

I weighed in at the shore for one last time last weekend to start off another week of healthy eating and working out. It was sort of nice to be know that was the last time I’d be there for a while. Shove it, shore meeting that I hate.

Anyway, I really love Cape May in September.  The weather is still beautiful, it isn’t as crowded, and I feel like I’m extending summer when I’m there. This weekend my friend, Kelly, came down to help round out what has been a really great season at the shore. Before she arrived I went for a pretty chilly walk along the Delaware Bay. It was cold, but it was beautiful. Kelly loves the beach as much as I do so shortly after she arrived we were off to put our feet in the sand for a while. It turned out to be a perfect beach day and we were very content to hang out there for a while.

There were several other lovely things that went on throughout my last weekend at the shore, but I won’t bore you with all of the details. It was a perfect way to finish out the season at the shore house.  Good weather, the family, a good friend, yummy food, and a relaxed pace made things awesome. I was happy. Which meant it was a little rough to leave on Monday morning. It was still dark since the days are getting shorter and I knew I wouldn’t be back for a while so there was some sniffling as I pulled the car out of our street. So long summer, you’ve been excellent.

It’s a good thing I got to relax at the shore that weekend because things got crazy when I got home. My mom was supposed to come home Monday for my dad’s birthday on Tuesday and to get ready for the family gathering at their house on Saturday. Well, this stomach insanity she’s been dealing with came back again and she got stuck at the shore house until Wednesday. My “must take care of everyone” gene kicked into high gear and I was off to the races do anything I could to help her out.

First up was taking my grandma to the eye doctor on Wednesday. Those of you who know me may know my grandma and aren’t exactly BFF. It sounds terrible, but it’s true. She’s not exactly the kind of lady who baked cookies and knit things for her grandchildren. She’s the kind of lady who has a well established hierarchy among her four grandchildren and I come in at #3 even though I’m the only one who ever does stuff for her like take her to the doctor. Luckily, she was in a fairly good mood and I came out of the afternoon relatively unscathed. She even noticed that I had lost weight. It’s a small miracle when she says something nice to me so I’m going to take this as a victory.

I also started shopping for what I’d be cooking for Saturday’s family gathering, coordinated for the event with my brother a little bit, went to yoga, and generally ran around like crazy that day.  I think I went to the grocery store like three times in preparation for this family dinner.

On Thursday I had an event to go to for my professional organization. I sit on the board of the Metro New Jersey chapter of said organization and I had a board meeting and dinner seminar. Sounds thrilling doesn’t it? Eating at the seminar was a little bit of a challenge, but I have to say I did pretty well. I skipped the appetizer since it was cold anyway, didn’t eat the salad drowned in dressing because I didn’t like the dressing, and asked the server to skip me with dessert.  I had a decent piece of salmon and some veggies and a little potato.  Not too shabby. I also squeezed in a run at lunch time since I knew I couldn’t do it after work.

I hit the exhaustion wall on Friday between all the stuff I had going on and my work schedule. I really just wanted to crash when I got home but there were things that needed to be done to prep for the birthday dinner I was making and such.  I was so tired I didn’t even want much of a dinner. I got most of my tasks done and was happy to get to bed at a decent time.

So how did this crazy week shape up for me on the scale? I finally had a good week after a month or so of very slow progress!  I lost 3.2 pounds! Yay! This means I’m just shy of 25 lbs total and I’ve lost over 10% of my starting weight.  It was such a relief to be back on track and see results on the scale this week. My progress has put me in a really good mood coupled with the excitement of going to Disney World on Friday, I’m probably fairly obnoxious at the moment. It’s good to be happy, huh?
