I thought this day would be relatively uneventful and I’d skip writing about it, but then funny/crazy things happened at the airport and I just had to put it out there. The day started out just fine with getting myself and all my luggage to the office. It was a little rough to watch the tweets from my friends who were already in town when I had to work, but somehow I survived. But I didn’t look happy about it…
After working a regular day it was head to the airport. It was raining so I was bracing myself for an evening full of delays. Luckily, my flight was showing only being about 20 minutes behind schedule. I think every Jetblue flight out of Newark was delayed that night so the small area where their gates are located was pretty nutty, but it started to calm down after they boarded a couple flights and sent people on their way.
They announced my flight would be slightly more delayed since our plane was just pulling into the gate when we were supposed to be boarding. Right after this announcement a woman sitting in one of the many rows of seats started yelling to no one about how Jetblue sucks and she’s never flying them again and making a scene. Everyone sort of gave her the side eye as if to say “relax, lady were only going to be like 10 more minutes.”
Of course, she was on my flight. And of course she sat in the same row as me on the other side of the aisle. She seemed to have calmed down until the flight attendant asked her to switch off her phone. She basically told the flight attendant she’d turn it off when she was good and ready and so started quite the situation. It was fairly obvious this woman was on some kind of drugs or just really drunk or something. At least I hope there was a reason for her bad behavior. With that in mind, the flight attendant asked her “are you ok?” and the crazy lady started yelling again about how much Jetblue sucks.
Another flight attendant came over to see what all the fuss was about. He also asked her if she was all right and she started to carry on again. He then said “if you’re not ok, I have to call the captain.” Have you, we’ve already pulled out from the gate at this point. So she replies “you do that, you call the captain.” The plane stopped rolling backwards, stopped for a few minutes, and then pulled back up to the gate.
I was getting ready for this lady to go bananas when they came to get her off the plane, but she pretty much just got up and went when a Jetblue gate agent told her she couldn’t fly tonight. She yelled and cursed as she got off the plane, but she went without the police or without any physical altercations. Everyone on the plane clapped when she left!
I have to give a lot of credit to the crew on the plane that night for how they handled everything that night. First of all, there was only about a 10 minute turn over from when the plane pulled into the gate til when they started boarding us. Secondly, they handled the situation with this woman quickly and safely before we got into the air where it could have become a real nightmare.
The rest of the flight to Orlando was fairly easy and incident free. I watched a bunch of Law and Order and hung out until it was time to land. Sally and Cindy were nice enough to come pick me up at the airport so I didn’t have to take the bus. Yay! It was so good to see them and start the trip off catching up and laughing with them on our way back to the resort.
We pulled up to the Boardwalk and I felt instantly at home. The Boardwalk is my favorite Disney hotel so I was really looking forward to staying here especially since we had a water/boardwalk view. I hadn’t been back to WDW since May so it was really nice to get back and instantly feel that little bit of magic. It didn’t hurt that our view was great and I had fabulous roommates to share share the experience.
I was happy and I had only been there a few minutes. Just wait for the rest of the weekend to unfold!
